The White House on August 25 issued a statement highlighting the enhancement of the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership, affirming that US Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to Vietnam signifies the US’s deep commitment not only to the region, but also to the US-Vietnam relationship.

Washington D.C., (VNA) – The White House on August 25 issued a statement highlighting theenhancement of the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership, affirming that US V🌟ice President Kamala Harris’s visit toVietnam signifies the US’s deep commitment not only🐷 to the region, but also tothe US-Vietnam relationship.
Over the pastseveral decades, the bilateral relationship has made significant strides, tothe point where the two nations now cooperate on a wide range of issues,including fighting COVID-19 and preparing for future health security threats, combating climate change, and addressing shared legacies of war. The UShas deepened economic ties as Vietnam’s second largest trading partner and itstop export market worldwide, the statement said. “Our securityrelationship has dramatically expanded as we support Vietnam’s independence andsovereignty, particularly in the maritime domain. The US and Vietnam havealso advanced capacities to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseasethreats through our partnership on the Global Health Security Agenda. Thealready-robust and growing partnership between our peoples has resulted innearly 30,000 Vietnamese studying in the US, contributing nearly 1 billion USDto the US economy,” theWhite House said.
According tothe statement, Harris reaffirmed the US’s commitment to a strong, prosperous,and independent Vietnam, as well a free, open, healthy, and resilientIndo-Pacific region.

Regarding climate change response, the Vice President and Vietnamese leaders agreed on the importance of combating the climate crisis,increasing resilience, and collaborating towards a clean energy future.

The US Agencyfor International Development (USAID) announced the Partnership for HigherEducation Reform, a five-year project providing up to 14.2 million USD tostrengthen teaching, research, innovation, and governance within the threelargest national universities in Vietnam./.
US Vice President Kamala Harris launched the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Southeast Asia Regional Office in Hanoi at a ceremony on August 25 during her three-day visit to the country.

Since the normalisation of bilateral relations in 1995, economic and trade ties between Vietnam and the US have seen great progress, with two-way trade hitting an all-time high of 90.8 billion USD in 2020, up 19.8 percent year-on-year, despite serious impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
