Workshop discusses revised draft law on anti-domestic violence

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – Aworkshop was held in Nha Trang city, the central province of Khanh Hoa, onSeptember 21 to seek feedback on the revised draft Law on Domestic ViolencePrevention and Control.
The event, held by the Ministry ofCulture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA)in Vietnam, was attended by legislators and officials of ministries, sectors, andlocalities in the central, Central Highlands, and southern regions.
A representative of the NationalAssembly (NA)’s Committee for Social Affairs said the revision aims to perfectregulations against domestic violence in a way that increases human rightsprotection measures in conformity with the 2013 Constitution, thus helpingpreserve traditional cultural values and promote national socio-economicdevelopment in the new context.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sportsand Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy noted that at the NA’s third session in June, mostof legislators agreed on the need to amend the law and on many of the draft’smain contents.
Undergoing continued amendments, thedraft currently consists of six chapters with 56 articles, six articles fewerthan the version submitted to the NA at the third session and 10 articles morethan the existing law, issued in 2007.
The revisions include those on domesticviolence prevention measures, the protection of and support for victims,coordination mechanisms and conditions for implementing domestic violence preventionand control, and the engagement of the private sector in the task, Thuy added.
The revised draft law will besubmitted to the NA’s fourth session in October./.
The Government of Vietnam is determined to tackle domestic violence by prioritising the amendment of relevant laws and policies on domestic violence prevention and control, and raising public awareness to change people’s behaviours, heard a workshop in Hanoi on March 24.

It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.

A master plan on implementation of recommendations accepted by Vietnam under the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) took effect on June 17.
