HCM City (VNA) - A workshop was held in Ho Chi Minh Cityon April 23 to discuss opportunities and challenges facing firms amid digitaltransformation.
It was co-hosted by the Investmentand Trade Promotion Center of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC), the Vietnam E-CommerceAssociation (VECOM), and the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC).
ITPC Deputy Director Nguyen Tuan saiddigital transformation has become an indispensable trend in socio-economic development,and the Government and localities have issued policies to accelerate theprocess.
Of note, HCM City has come up with ascheme to turn itself into a smart urban area by 2030.
Dr Nguyen Tuan Hoa, an informationtechnology expert, said creativity and the application of modern technology foreconomic development will be key factors in breakthroughs made.
He suggested issuing specificpolicies to encourage enterprises to switch to digital transformation, includingusing part of pre-tax profits for the effort and adjusting policies relating toaccounting, statistics, and archives to adapt to the process./.
A forum on Vietnam’s digital challenges took place on April 9, a follow-up of a chain of technological events initiated by the Ministry of Information and Communications in 2020.
The world is entering into the digital era and this represents a “golden opportunity” for technology companies to grow further, according to FPT General Director Nguyen Van Khoa.
As Vietnam’s digital transformation accelerates, both the frequency and severity of cyberattacks are growing. The National Cybersecurity Association (NCA) reported that in 2024 alone, there were some 659,000 separate cybersecurity incidents, impacting around 46.15% of government agencies and businesses.

Since 2022, more than 500 Vietnamese startups have engaged in Google’s Startup Academy, Google for Startups Accelerator, and Google Startup Masterclass. Nearly 100 of these firms received support to develop and improve their products, benefiting more than 300,000 customers and creating over 300 new jobs through successful fundraising and team expansion amidst Vietnam’s competitive economy.
Over the past three decades, Binh Duong has cemented its status as one of Vietnam’s most dynamic industrial hubs, building a robust foundation in manufacturing, exports, and investment. The province now has 30 operational industrial parks spanning over 13,000 hectares, with an occupancy rate exceeding 90%.

It is seen as a prerequisite and the best opportunity for Vietnam to become prosperous and powerful in the new era of the nation’s rise.
Vietnam’s demographic advantage, including a youthful population of 100 million in a “golden age”, further bolsters its ambitions. Its dynamic workforce, with a natural inclination toward science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), is a key asset in attracting private investment to innovation-driven sectors.
