World Vision International honoured with Friendship Order

Hanoi (VNA)🍌 – World Vision International (WVI) has been awarded the Friendship Order of the President of Vietnam for its active contributions to local poverty reduction and child care.
Vu Xuan Hong, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, presented the Friendship Order to WVI President Kevin Jenkins on September 28.
In his speech, Hong appreciated WVI’s assistance to socio-economic development in Vietnam over the past three decades. He said his organisation and authorised agencies will continue supporting the organisation’s activities in the country.
Kevin Jenkins said the Order reflects the long-lasting and sound relationship between the Vietnamese Government and WVI, adding that he hopes their cooperation will be enhanced in the future.
WVI is a US non-governmental organisation that began operating in Vietnam before 1975 with emergency aid and community development activities. It has been licensed to work in such fields as food security, clean water and environmental hygiene, micro-finance and economic development, climate change response, education, child protection, and health care.
Over the last 30 years, it has mobilised 300 million USD for Vietnam and effectively carried out 47 development programmes nationwide.-VNA
The People’s Committee of Vinh Linh district in central Quang Tri province pledged to continue the World Vision’s efforts to ensure social welfare activities across the locality.
The Friendship Medal has been presented to Edward Danielraj Selvanayagam, the former National Director of World Vision Vietnam, in recognition of his devotion to local poverty elimination efforts.
The central city of Da Nang received 17 billion VND (756,670 USD) in financial support from World Vision International US on January 11 for child education and care projects.
A conference to review the project on protecting human trafficking victims, funded by World Vision, was held in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai on June 16.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
UNICEF stands ready to support the Government in implementing this important law and in continuing to invest in teachers as the cornerstone of a resilient, inclusive, and high-quality education system for all children.
