– Party General Secretary To Lam on February 4 requested all agencies, units, and localities to immediately get to work after the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, with focus on completing the tasks on schedule for February and the first quarter of 2025.Chairing a conference of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat to evaluate the implementation of its Directive on organising Tet 2025, Lam appreciated the efforts made by sectors, agencies, units, and localities in thoroughly and effectively carrying out the directive, emphasising that the success of the Tet activities is a favourable starting point for a year full of success. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested competent authorities to accelerate the development of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant project while chairing the second meeting of the steering committee for nuclear power plant construction on February 4.
The revival of the Ninh Thuan nuclear project, which was initially approved by the 12th National Assembly in 2009 but suspended in 2016, marks a significant shift in Vietnam's energy strategy. The project, comprising two plants with a combined capacity exceeding 4,000 MW, then received in-principle approvals from the Party Central Committee and National Assembly in late 2024. – A tree planting festival celebrating the Lunar New Year and World Wetlands Day was launched at the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve, the northern province of Thai Binh, on February 4.The event was also meant to mark the 66th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s tree planting campaign and the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). – More than 1.48 million poor and near-poor households across Vietnam were given much-needed relief during the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tet), thanks to gifts and assistance amounting to 786 billion VND (31.44 million USD), reported the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs on February 3.According to local departments of labour, invalids and social affairs, over 13.5 million people nationwide benefited from this outpouring of support. – Vietnam shipped nearly 51.7 billion USD to the European Union in 2024, marking an 18.5% increase, equivalent to an additional $8.08 billion compared to the previous year.

– In a significant move to support businesses during challenging times, the Vietnamese government has extended and enhanced various tax relief programmes for 2025, with reductions and deferral measures aimed at stimulating economic growth.According to the Ministry of Finance, the tax and fee incentives put in place between 2020 and 2024 made key contributions to socio-economic recovery and development. – Vietnam has six billionaires after chairman of Masan Group Nguyen Dang Quang rejoining the Forbes’ latest list of the world’s richest individuals.Under the Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2025 as of February 2 this year, Quang, who temporarily dropped off the ranking in early January 2025, made a comeback with his net worth rebounding to 1 billion USD, placing him 2,718th on the list of the world’s richest people.
