Hanoi(VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested the Asian ProductivityOrganisation (APO) choose Vietnam as a model forproductivity improvement, starting from specific and key projects, during areception in Hanoi on April 26 for APO Secretary-General Indra Pradana Singawinata.

The PM alsoproposed the APO assist Vietnam in fine-tuning mechanisms, human resourcetraining, administrative science, and stepping up international cooperation in the field of productivity.

He hailed the Secretary-General for choosing Vietnam as the firstdestination after taking office, saying that it is the manifestation of thegrowing strategic partnership between Vietnam and the APO.

PM Chinh also thanked the APO for assisting Vietnam in building a comprehensive productivity plan based on innovation in2019, joining expert groups on strategic research activities of the APO andseveral key projects, and building capacity for training, evaluating andcertifying productivity experts.

Accordingto him, the Vietnamese Government has issued a number of programmes andinitiatives to improve labour productivity, with the goal of achieving anaverage labour productivity growth of over 6.5% annually from 2021-2030.

ThePM suggested the APO and the Secretary-General facilitate activities to supportresources, especially experts to help Vietnam carry out a project on enhancinglabour productivity based on science, technology and innovation.

Theywere also asked to help Vietnam build support projects within the APO’sframework to launch training activities, and support activities related to theinternational certification of productivity experts according to APO standards. The group was also requested to increase the quantity and quality of national and international productivityexperts in Vietnam, and successfully organise the National Productivity Forumin October 2023, which will be hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science andTechnology.

Thehost hoped that the APO would keep growing, toward the goal of promotingsustainable socio-economic development in the Asia-Pacific through productivityimprovement.

ℱ Singawinata, for hispart, said Vietnam holds a special position inthe APO, adding that the country has a foundation to increase productivity,with hardworking and committed people who are striving to achieve the goal ofbecoming a developed, high-income country by 2045. Furthermore, Vietnam is aleading stable country in terms of politics, economics and society.

Agreeingwith PM Chinh’s proposals, he pledged to help Vietnam improve its institutionalbuilding capacity, develop plans and monitor the implementation process, and pool theinvolvement of departments and agencies in labour productivity improvement. Inthe short term, specific and key contents will be selected./.
