April 30 victory inspires global revolutionary movements: Cuban official

Havana (VNA) – The April 30, 1975 victory ignited a global flame of inspiration for revolutionary movements and proved that a nation united in its quest for independence and sovereignty could overcome even the mightiest adversaries, said former Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam and Vice President of the Cuba–Vietnam Friendship Association Fredesmán Turró González.

🐎 Talking with the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondents based in Havana ahead of the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30), González underlined the pivotal role of national unity and the strategic blend of military, political, and diplomatic efforts that led to the liberation of southern Vietnam.

The 1975 Spring Offensive, he noted, was a watershed moment in Vietnam’s modern history, embodying the courage, unity, and unyielding resolve of the Vietnamese people under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, guided by President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings.

Five decades later, the April 30 victory continues to inspire Vietnamese people and leaders, fueling their drive to build a prosperous, modern nation. González described the triumph as an enduring source of national pride and patriotic fervor, resonating across Vietnamese generations.

Reflecting on the essence of Vietnam’s resilience, González underscored national solidarity as a cornerstone of the country’s resistance against foreign invaders and natural disasters. As Vietnam strides forward with rapid socio-economic progress, he stressed that unity is more vital than ever. The strong bond between the Vietnamese at home and abroad, coupled with the harmony between citizens and leaders, ensures an equitable and sustainable future where no one is left behind.

González further noted that the 1975 victory stemmed from multiple factors, with military strength serving as a linchpin. In today’s interconnected world, he said, a balanced approach combining military prowess, political acumen, and diplomatic finesse is vital for achieving national objectives, particularly Vietnam’s dual goals of economic growth and safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity.

With diplomatic ties with over 190 nations and a presence in more than 200 global markets, Vietnam is a proactive player at international organisations and forums. Its foreign policy, rooted in peace and global economic integration, has led to numerous free trade agreements and strategic partnerships with major global powers, while maintaining equitable cooperation with nations like Cuba, he said.

Looking back over the past five decades, particularly since the sixth National Party Congress in 1986, he marveled at Vietnam’s extraordinary socio-economic development. Now recognised as one of the world’s most dynamic economies, Vietnam boasts high growth rates and considerably improved living standards. Its success in poverty reduction, abundant natural resources, and a young, skilled workforce further enhance its robust growth potential.

🐻 González concluded with confidence that national unity and pride, sound leadership, and patriotism will continue to propel Vietnam forward into a new era - the era of national rise./.
