April 30 victory is a great triumph of both Laos and Vietnam: military officer

Under the brilliant leadership and guidance of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Vietnamese army and people, especially those in the South, succeeded in their struggle against the imperialist forces. This historic victory helped Vietnam gain national reunification, enabling the country to safeguard its sovereignty and advance steadily on the path of socialism for the great goal of building a prosperous Vietnam as today.

Vientiane (VNA) – The victory on April 30, 1975, marked a profound and historic milestone, bringing an end to decades of colonial and neo-colonial wars in the three Indochinese nations of Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, a senior Lao officer has said.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)'s resident correspondents in Laos, Lieutenant General Vongsone Inpanphim, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence, emphasised that the victory forced the powerful US imperialists, equipped with huge economic and military resources and cutting-edge weaponry, to suffer a resounding defeat across the Indochinese battlefields, particularly in Southern Vietnam.

Inspired by Vietnam’s success, the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) led the Lao armed forces and multi-ethnic people in a nationwide uprising, culminating in the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975 — a shared triumph for both Laos and Vietnam, according to the Lao officer.

Inpanphim underlined that the special combat alliance between the Lao and Vietnamese armies and people reflects a bond of solidarity nurtured under the leadership of the CPV and LPRP. Throughout their struggles for national liberation, every battlefield and every path bore the footprints of the two armies, symbolising an enduring alliance forged during the shared fight for independence.

He noted that this special alliance achieved great successes thanks to the strong leadership, sound political and military strategies, and a shared ideal. Regardless of the hardships or complexities they faced, the Lao and Vietnamese forces always fought side by side. This spirit of solidarity remains a timeless and invaluable legacy, with the people of both nations playing a crucial role in supporting their armies with manpower, food supplies, transport, and other vital aspects of the revolutionary struggle.

Inpanphim said officers and soldiers of the Lao and Vietnamese armies have become beloved sons and daughters of both nations. In today’s era of national construction and development, the spirit of the Laos-Vietnam combat alliance — a symbol of the profound friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation — continues to be an essential pillar supporting the stability and prosperity of both Parties and States.

He stressed the need to educate younger generations to inherit and further develop the enduring Laos-Vietnam relationship, which remains unique and everlasting in the world.

Highlighting the significance of Vietnam's 50th anniversary of liberation of the South and national reunification, Inpanphim said the event holds deep historical importance not only for the Vietnamese military and people but also for the Lao Party, State, and armed forces, who view it as a shared achievement and a source of great pride.

The participation of the Lao army in the military parade on this occasion, at the invitation of Vietnam, is a vivid symbol of the special combat alliance between the two countries. It also reflects the maturity, strength, and pure international spirit of the Lao and Vietnamese armed forces — the heroic armies of the heroic peoples, standing side by side to preserve the invaluable achievements of both nations, he added./.
