Hanoi (VNA) –Southern Thailand was rocked by a series of attacks just a few hours after KingMaha Vajiralongkorn signed a new constitution.

Thai police on April 7 reported22 attacks, including at least five small bomb blasts, in Muslim-majority southernThailand. There was neither immediate claim of responsibility nor reports ofcasualties.

The incidentsaim to create disturbances, ruin the government's credibility and create fearamong people, said Pramote Prom-in, spokesperson of local security forces.

Earlier, onApril 6, King Vajiralongkorn-Rama X signed into law the Constitution 2017, the20th of its kind since the end of absolute monarchy in 1932. It wasan essential step towards an election the ruling junta has promised to restoredemocracy in the Southeast Asian country.

The constitu꧑tionwas approved by 61.4 percent of voters in a referendum held in Augu๊st lastyear.-VNA
