Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November
Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Bac Giang (VNA) – The northern province of Bac Giang aims to complete the campaign to do away with temporary and dilapidated houses by November this year, according to the local Fatherland Front Committee.
It eyes to approve and break ground on all eligible housing projects by May 31.
Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).
An additional 503 substandard dwellings requiring upgrade have been identified but they do not meet eligibility criteria, primarily due to land use right certification issues or other regulatory complications.
Progress is already underway with 115 projects in motion.
The Chairperson of the provincial People’s committee has held biweekly meetings to review and remove bottlenecks for the work.
🤪 Last year, the province mobilised more than 86 billion VND, over 51,000 volunteer workdays, and donations of building materials to build and repair nearly 1,400 houses for poor and near-poor households and people who rendered service to the nation./.
Stressing that eliminating substandard houses is an extremely important political task, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for stronger engagement of the whole political system in the work, especially the business community and the public, so as to basically complete the programme by October 31, 2025.
Across the country, provinces and cities are mobilising all available resources to eliminate inadequate housing, ensuring stable living conditions for low-income families, social policy beneficiaries, and individuals with meritorious service.
Last year, the province successfully raised 100.5 billion VND to build 1,802 houses, including 250 for families of ex-revolutionaries and others for poor households. However, nearly 3,500 local households still grapple with housing difficulties, requiring an estimated 200 billion VND in additional support.
