Bac Ninh (VNA) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the northern province of Bac Ninh to continue maintaining its safe traffic management model, evaluating and improving it as a foundation for expanding to other cities and provinces nationwide.

He made this request at a conference on September 22 in Bac Ninh, marking one year of the province's implementation of the "Traffic Safety Province" initiative. The event, co-organised by the Bac Ninh provincial Party Committee and the Central Public Security Party Committee, saw the participation of police departments from 12 localities across the country.

Bac Ninh province stated that after one year of piloting the traffic safety initiative, the number of traffic accidents in the province had decreased by 16%, fatalities by 20%, and injuries by 19%. Key traffic accident hotspots were addressed, and 100% of speed bumps were installed at road junctions.

Traffic infrastructure was improved with many key projects accelerated and completed. The application of technology has enhanced patrol and enforcement efforts. Police recorded 45,401 violations, resulting in fines totalling 103.5 billion VND (4.2 million), an increase of 101% compared to previous years.

To modernise the traffic police force, the province has invested in building a Police Command Information Centre, which operates two camera systems to ensure traffic safety, fire prevention and crime prevention. The centre was developed in collaboration with Gtel, a Ministry of Public Security enterprise, and features advanced technologies such as an intelligent traffic command system, AI-based traffic violation detection and digital patrol management. The centre also supports accident investigation and data sharing with various sectors.

At the conference, PM Chinh outlined six key lessons in ensuring traffic safety. They include the importance of leadership from the Party and state management, the central role of the people in traffic safety efforts, the need for continuously upgraded infrastructure, the use of modern technology in traffic management, the role of education in raising public awareness and the value of piloting successful models before expanding them nationwide.

The Prime Minister also emphasised the need to improve legal frameworks, modernise infrastructure across all modes of transport, enhance public awareness through education and improve coordination among ministries, localities and security forces.

𒀰 He directed the Ministry of Public Security to continue researching and expanding the "Traffic Safety Province" initiative nationwide, with the ultimate goal of turning Vietnam into a country with safe traffic and a secure, orderly environment for both residents and visitors./.
