CanTho (VNA) - The third Cai Rang Floating Market Culture and TourismFestival kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on July 7.
Theannual festival is part of activities to respond to the Vietnam Tourism Day(July 9), and honour and promote the images and culture of the Cai Rangfloating market, a national intangible cultural heritage.
Speakingat the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee LeVan Tam stressed that the Cai Rang floating market is one of the highlights of CanTho’s tourism as it honours cultural values of river areas and trading on therivers.
The market’s operation helps transfer economic structure, create jobs and attractinvestment, contributing to promoting the locality’s socio-economic developmentand raising its position.
The organiser said a wide range of activities are featured in the three-day event,including a parade of tourism boats, a composite boat race, a photo, book and magazine exhibition, tourismpromotion programmes and a Don ca tai tu performance exchange.
The Cai Rang Floating Market, located about 6km from the centre of Can Thocity, has been around for centuries. It is a prime example of the waterwaymarket culture in the southwestern region, where people buy and sell goods onboats.
It becomes an attractive destination for tourists, helping the locality topromote tourism development.
The municipal authority has made efforts to preserve and develop the heritage,focusing on raising public awareness of the importance of the market fortourism development, enhancing tourism links in the region, towards attractingmore and more holiday-makers to the city.-VNA
Culture of the Cai Rang Floating Market, the national intangible cultural heritage will be a highlight of the Vietnam Ethnic Groups' Unity–Vietnam Cultural Heritage Week in Hanoi from November 18-23.
More the 2.4 million people visited the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in the first three months of 2018, up 13.6 percent year on year and realising 30.2 percent of the yearly target.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
Quang Duc pottery is known for its wide range of forms, including wine bottles, jars, lime pots, vases, plant pots, incense burners and candle stands. Decorative motifs are equally rich, featuring mythical creatures, pastoral scenes, floral patterns, deer, peacocks, bats and more.
Vietnam’s cinematic appeal lies in its diverse settings, from terraced mountains and limestone karsts to bustling markets and ancient towns. Its mix of ethnic vibes, buzzing street life, and old traditions gives directors a goldmine for storytelling.
The Vietnamese team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, where they will train until July 14 before departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN U23 Championship 2025, which runs from July 15 to 29. Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22 in the group stage.
The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.
