Phnom Penh (VNA)🥂 – An Asia’s leaders conference on consolidating a culture of peace has opened in Cambodia by the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) in collaboration with the Peace Union Organisation, the New Cambodia newspaper reported on April 22.

The event drew key international speakers from the US, Japan, Germany and the Republic of Korea and more than 250 local professionals and lecturers. Tuoch Chuon from the MEYS said the event aimed at improving training work and increasing the public’s awareness of heightening the culture of peace.  He believed participants would get additional understanding in the area apply to their lecturers on Cambodia’s history for students. Cambodian schools have begun teaching the country’s Khmer history, including causes of conflict, solutions to conflicts and peace maintenance with the international participation , he added. According to the United Nations, the culture of peace is a commitment to peace-building, mediation, conflict prevention and resolution, peace education, and education for non-violence, tolerance, acceptance, mutual respect, intercultural and interfaith dialogue and reconciliation.-VNA
