Cambodia: Campaign for July 29 general election ends
Political parties of Cambodia on July 27 ended their three-week campaigns for the country’s general election slated on July 29 during which about 8.3 million voters are expected to cast their ballots to choose the 125-seat National Assembly.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Political parties of Cambodia on July 27 ended theirthree-week campaigns for the country’s general election slated on July 29 duringwhich about 8.3 million voters are expected to cast their ballots to choose the125-seat National Assembly.
According to the Cambodian National Election Committee (NEC),more than 300,000 supporters of seven parties among 20 parties joining the raceparticipated in rallies in Koh Pich Centre and Freedom Park in Phnom Penh onthe final day.
The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) held thelargest-scale campaign with the number of rally participants rising from about60,000 on the first day to over 250,000 on the last day.
Specifically, CPP President cum Prime Minister Hun Senjoined the rallies on both first and last days. He also visited a lot of localitiesand met with more than 654,000 workers calling on them to cast their votes forthe party.
Speaking on the final day of the campaign, Hun Sen calledfor support from voters, affirming that in the fifth tenure, his party plays avery important role in building and defending the country, especially inmaintaining peace and development.
CPP is the only party has conducted the election campaign inall 25 cities and provinces in Cambodia. The party set forth its 11-point platformstressing the importance of consolidating national solidarity, abiding by theConstitution, protecting the monarchy, upholding democracy and freedom,respecting human rights, safeguarding sovereignty and independence as well asterritorial integrity , peace and security, and maintaining a sustainablegrowth rate of 7 percent a year.
Meanwhile, some other parties focus on socio-economicdevelopment, poverty reduction, administrative and law reform.
NEC said that no violent activities took place during the21-day campaign.
As many as 220 observers from 52 countries will monitor theJuly 29 general election.
In the last election on July 28, 2013, eight political partiesjoined the race.-VNA
