Cambodia, China pledge to further foster cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Chinese Premier Li Keqiangheld talks with his Cambodian counterpart, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, in Beijing onJanuary 22, reported Xinhua News Agency.

At the talks, Li pledged to bring China’s friendship withCambodia to a higher level, and strengthen communication and coordination underthe framework of China-ASEAN cooperation and Lancang-Mekong cooperation.

Chinese companies will be assisted to participate inCambodia's infrastructure construction in such areas as production capacity,transportation and electricity, the premier said.

For his part, PM Hun Sen said Cambodia will work withChina to consolidate their friendship, deepen cooperation in infrastructure,production capacity, economy and trade, agriculture, expand people-to-peopleexchanges and strengthen cooperation in international and regional affairs.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signingof a series of cooperative documents. The two sides will also issue a joint statementon January 23.

Earlier the same day, China’s top legislator LiZhanshu and top political advisor Wang Yang met with PM Hun Sen.

The China-Cambodia Trade and Investment PromotionForum 2019 was held in Beijing on January 22 as part of PM Hun Sen’s four-dayvisit to China, aimed at exploring ways to boost economic, trade and investmentties between the two countries.

PM Hun Sen revealed that China has agreed to providehis nation with 4 billion Chinese yuan (around 588 million USD) in grant aid aspart of a three-year assistance fund.

In the talks with Chinese Party General Secretary andPresident Xi Jinping on January 21, the two countries agreed to increase theirbilateral trade to 10 billion USD by 2023, Hun Sen said, adding that theChinese leader also promised to purchase 400,000 tonnes of rice from Cambodiain 2019 and push more Chinese businesses to invest in the country.-VNA
