Cambodia: CNRP new leadership not recognised

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Cambodian Ministry of Interior on March 23 issued astatement saying it does not recognise the new leadership of the opposition CambodiaNational Rescue Party (CNRP).

Inthe statement signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior SamdechSar Kheng, the ministry said it had received the election result of the CNRP’s extraordinarycongress on March 2.

However,the election did not adhere to the party’s regulations, the ministry said. Itrequested the party to follow its statutes.

TheCNRP organised an extraordinary congress in early March to elect a new leadershipafter Sam Rainsy resigned as CNRP President and left the party on February 11.
