Cambodia: CPP says it wins 114 seats in new parliament

The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won 114 out of 125 seats of the sixth National Assembly following the general election on July 29, according to an unofficial document of the party.

PhnomPenh (VNA) –♏ The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won 114 out of 125seats of the sixth National Assembly following the general election on July 29,according to an unofficial document of the party.

The partyearned a landslide victory in many localities, including Phnom Penh with tenout of 12 seats and nine seats each in Kandal, Prey Veng and Kampong Cham. Thedocument also showed that the National United Front for an Independent, Neutral,Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia (FUNCINPEC) gained six seats and the League forDemocracy Party (LDP) grabbed five, while 17 others did not win any. Earlier,the CPP said it won some 4.2 million out of more than 6.8 million votes in thecountry’s general election, or 61.7 percent.

Thenumber of votes was much higher than the 48.83 percent of votes that the CPPgained in the 2013 election.

Previously, the National Election Committee (NEC) announced Cambodia’sgeneral election was a success with the voter turnout estimated at 82.17percent.

🔥 Twenty political parties competed for 125 seats in the parliament. TheNEC plans to announce preliminary results on August 11 and official results onAugust 15 in case of no complaints from political parties.-VNA
