Cambodia deports more than 100 suspected Chinese fraudsters

Cambodia on August 24 deported 122 Chinese people suspected of operating a telecoms network to extort money from victims in China, a senior police official said.
Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia on August24 deported 122 Chinese people suspected of operating a telecoms network toextort money from victims in China, a senior police official said.

Lieutenant General Ouk Hai Seila, chief ofthe investigation department at the General Department of Immigration, saidChina sent two planes to pick up the suspects.

They will be sent to Sichuan province,southwest of China, via Siem Reap international airport, he added.

The suspects were detained by Cambodianauthorities on August 2 in two places in northwest Banteay Meanchey provinceafter a tip-off from Chinese authorities.

They used Voice over Internet Protocol, atype of internet phone service, from Cambodia to extort money from victims inChina.

A large number of telephones and laptops,and a list of Chinese victims was confiscated during the raids.

Since 2011, Cambodia has deported 1,050Chinese people accused of involvement in telecoms scam.-VNA
