Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian Prime Min💞ister Hun Sen on May 25 announced the end of a large-scale water distribution campaign in serous drought hit areas after rains have come in recent weeks.

On the occasion, the PM appreciated the efforts of participants in the two-month campaign while expressing high hope that 2016 would be a good year for harvest. However, he also requested local authorities to continue their support if any areas are still suffering from drought.
Vice President of the National Centre for Disaster Management Nhim Vanda said earlier this month that about 2.5 million people were affected by the worst drought in a decade in the Southeast Asian country.
The water distribution campaign was initiated by the PM on April 26, which requested authorities at all levels to focus on distributing water to people in drought-hit areas, as the country has been severely hit by drought in recent months. According to the National Centre for Disaster Management, drought caused severe water shortages in 18 out of the country’s 25 cities and provinces.-VNA
