Phnom Penh (VNA) –Cambodia and France have agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in all fields.
The agreement was madeduring the meeting between Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister ofForeign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and Bertrand Lortholary,Director for Asia and Oceania of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs ofFrance, in Phnom Penh on February 6.
While noting thelong-standing relations of friendship between Cambodia and France, the DeputyPrime Minister highly appreciated the recent working visit of Cambodian PrimeMinister Samdech Techo Hun Sen to Paris on December 13 last year.
He expressed his pleasure with the recent visit of Olivier Becht, Minister Delegate attachedto the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in charge of Foreign Trade.
These two events have furtherstrengthened political and economic cooperation between the two countries,according to a press release issued by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs andInternational Cooperation.
Prak Sokhonn briefed theDirector on the success of Cambodia’s Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN)Chairmanship in 2022 and its efforts to help Myanmar in implementing theFive-point Consensus in order to bring this country back to normalcy throughdialogues.
For his part, Lortholary appreciatedCambodia for the great achievements of its economic and social development, comparedto his first visit to the Kingdom as a student in 1993. He congratulatedCambodia for its Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022, especially in the context of the riseof challenges in the region and around the world, particularly in Myanmar that Cambodia has made many sustained efforts throughout 2022 to help implementthe five points of consensus approved by the heads of Government of ASEANstates to defuse the tensions.
