Cambodia: Khmer Power Party leader sentenced to five years in prison

Phnom Penh(VNA) – The Phnom Penh court on August 25 sentenced Sourn Serey Ratha, President of the Khmer Power Party, tofive years in prison and 10 million riel (2,500 USD) in fine for slandering anddamaging the prestige of the Cambodia’s Royal Armed Forces.

Sourn Serey Ratha wasarrested on August 13, one day after he posted a statement on Facebookslandering and harming the credit of national leaders during the border tensionin Steung Treng province that borders Laos’ Attapeu  province.

The statement angeredthe armed forces and was considered intolerable.

He was found guilty onthree charges of inciting soldiers to disobey orders, weakening military’sspirit and encouraging crimes under Cambodia’s Penal Code.-VNA

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations.
