The registration of party and candidate lists for the general election in Cambodia has officially begun, more than three months ahead of the election in July this year.

On April 5, the National Election Committee of Cambodia (NEC)requested that political parties that have registered legal activities with theInterior Ministry prepare the necessary paperwork to register their party andcandidate lists for the 2023 parliamentary election. It also clarified regulations on registering candidatelists by electoral district, as well as rules and procedures for submitting thecandidacy deposit for the general election. Earlier, NEC set a timeframefrom April 24-May 8 for political parties to register and submit theircandidate lists for the general election. Since February, majorpolitical parties in Cambodia have gradually released their campaign platformsto prepare for the July general election, namely the ruling Cambodian People'sParty (CPP), the Candlelight Party (CP), the FUNCINPEC, and the Khmer NationalUnited Party (KNUP), among others. As stipulated,Cambodia holds a general election every five years. The latest election washeld on July 29, 2018. According to NEC's announcement on August 11, 2018, theCPP won all 125 seats in the incumbent sixth National Assembly./.
