Cambodia: new solar power plant put into operation

Phnom Penh (VNA) - A 30MW solar power stationlocated in Krakor district, Pursat province of Cambodia, has been connected tothe country’s national grid as it enters its testing and commissioning phase.
The project is part of the government’s plan to boost theKingdom’s clean-energy portfolio to 450MW by the end of 2022.
KeoRottanak, director-general of State-run electricitysupplier Electricite du Cambodge (EdC), was quoted by local media as saying onSeptember 22 that the plant had been commissioned by the EdC to be connected tothe national grid in SnaAnsa commune.
Victor Jona, director-general of the Ministry of Mines andEnergy’s General Department of Energy told the Phnom Penh Post that the projectentered its testing and commissioning phase just after construction wascompleted in mid-September.
He added that with the efforts of the relevant authorities,he expects more new solar power plants to be put into operation in the future,mainly in provinces such as Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang andBanteayMeanchey.
The project will be equipped with Cheetah-brand photovoltaicpanels provided by Shanghai-based New York Stock Exchange-listed JinkosolarHolding Co Ltd.JinkoSolaris the world’s largest producer of solar panels.
According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, from 2006 tothe end of last year, investment in the electricity sector was worth a total of6.1 billion USD, reflecting an increasing demand of the energy sector in recentyears.
Demand for electricity is growing at an average of 16-18 percentannually, except from 2018 to last year, which saw a 25 percent growth, itsaid.
The Kingdom can generate about 70-80 percent of totalelectricity consumption, with the remainder met byimports from neighbouring countries, it added./.
