Phnom Penh (VNA)꧅ – The Cambodian government and local authorities are deploying many measures to ensure readiness to respond to activities by hostile and opposing forces that are plotting to incite social disorder in this Southeast Asian country.

The spokesperson of the Cambodian Ministry of Justice on August 14 stated that law enforcement forces have clear evidence of a plan to incite people in the country to protest in connection with a plot to carry out a "colour revolution" to overthrow the legitimate royal government of Cambodia. According to the ministry, activities related to the above plan are acts of riotous overthrow, which are considered serious crimes, affecting national security, violating the country’s Criminal Code, possibly the anti-terrorism law and current regulations, depending on the specific crime. The ministry’s spokesperson requested that the authorities strictly handle crimes that threaten national security to protect and maintain the country’s social stability and prosperity.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha has asked provincial and municipal authorities and local authorities to focus on security work in their areas, raise vigilance against plots to protest and riot to overthrow the government, especially gatherings and movements into the capital city of Phnom Penh from August 15-31.
In his one-hour voice message shared on Telegram on August 12, President of the Senate and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) Samdech Techo Hun Sen warned of harsh punishment for those who plot to incite riots, and reminded people not to cross the “red line”, by not violating the rule of law and disregarding the legitimacy of the Royal Government. He affirmed that the government always ensures that people live in peace, political stability and makes efforts to develop the country's economy./.
