Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodia on October 1 dispatched its eighth batch of 298 soldiers to join the United Nationspeacekeeping mission in Mali.
The peacekeepers replace theseventh batch, whose one-year term has come to an end, Gen. Sem Sovanny,director-general of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, said at a sending-off ceremony at the Phnom Penh international airport.
According to him, the Cambodian peacekeepers in Mali are divided into two groups, with one responsiblefor explosive ordnance disposal and the other in charge of airport repairsand maintenance.
Sovannyadded that all the soldiers have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have testednegative for the disease before their departure.
Since 2006 todate, Cambodia has sent a total of 7,826 personnel,including 494 women, to join UN peacekeeping missions in Sudan, South Sudan,Central African Republic, Chad, Syria, Lebanon and Mali, he said./.
