Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has announced a changein the schedule of forming a new government to early September, earlier thanthe time he mentioned earlier.
Speaking tothousands of garment factory workers in Kampong Speu province on August 8, HunSen said the new National Assembly will hold the opening session on September 5under the auspices of the country's King Norodom Sihamoni, during which the newNational Assembly will vote for the establishment of a new government.
The new governmentwill be formed on September 6 with the swearing-in ceremony to be held in theafternoon, he said.
On September 7’s morning,the new cabinet will convene its first meeting.
Earlier on August 6at a meeting with athletes and coaches before they depart for the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, PM Hun Sen said that as there was no post-electionproblem, he decided to form the new government prior to the schedule, so thathe would be able to attend and deliver a speech at the 73rd United NationsGeneral Assembly in New York and other meetings in Europe.
The sixth generalelection of Cambodia on July 29 drew 20 parties vying for 125 seats in theparliament. According to the National Election Committee (NEC), the electionwas a success with the involvement of 82.89 percent of voters, much higher thanthe turnout rate of 69.61 percent in the fifth election in 2013.
The NEC announced onJuly 30 that the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won the most votes in theelection, with more than 4.8 million votes or 76.78 percent.
