Phnom Penh (VNA) – Senator Sim Ka, a member ofthe Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Central Committee, has been elected as FirstVice President of the Cambodian Senate, replacing Ney Pena who passed away onSeptember 29.
Sim Ka won the favour of 58 senators at an extraordinaryheld by the fourth Senate on October 11 and presided over by its President SamdechSay Chhum.
The Senate also recognised Kong Saothun as a new senator ofconstituency No. 5, encompassing the provinces of Takeo, Kampot and Kep,replacing Nay Pena.
Cambodia’s fourth Senate has 62 seats with 58 claimed by theCPP. Two seats were appointed by King Norodom Sihamoni and the rest two wereselected by the National Assembly.
A term of the Senate lasts for six years. The body is incharge of giving decisions on National Assembly’s legal documents beforesubmitting them to the King for approval.-VNA
