Cambodia’s exports to Japan up 4.5 percent in H1

Cambodian exports to Japan totalled591 million USD between January and June, a 4.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO).
PhnomPenh (VNA) -  Cambodian exports to Japan totalled 591 million USD betweenJanuary and June, a 4.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year,according to the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO).

MeyKalyan, senior adviser to Cambodia’s Supreme NationalEconomic Council, said the slower growth of exports to Japan could be the resultof the weaker investment by Japanese manufacturers.

Cambodia’s exports to Japan mainly depend on the operation of Japanesemanufacturers in Cambodia which produce goods to export back to Japan,  he said.

Cambodia’sPrime Minister Hun Sen is paying an official visit to Japan from August 6-9.The visit has been seen as a milestone in the 68-year history of diplomaticties between the two countries.

Duringhis stay in Japan, PM Hun Senis scheduled to talk about the encouragement ofJapanese businesses to increase their investments in Cambodia. -VNA
