Can Tho (VNA) – The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is expected to become a modern and civilised city by 2045, keeping up with the development level of advanced cities in ASEAN.

The goal was set out at a conference held by the municipal Party Committee on November 4 to review the implementation of the Politburo's Resolution on socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta region in the 2001 – 2010, and a conclusion of the Politburo on orientations, tasks and solutions for socio-economic development and security and defence in the region in the 2011-2020.

Accordingly, Can Tho will accelerate economic restructuring, transform the growth model on the basis of application of modern technologies and deep integration with the regional and global economy.

Attention will be paid to speeding up creative capacity and application of modern technologies in developing e-government and smart urban areas, towards becoming an important focal point in intra-regional and international transportation.

The city eyes to post a yearly gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth rate of between 7.5 – 8 percent in the 2020 – 2025 period,  and 8 - 8.5 percent in the next five years. Meanwhile, the GRDP per capita by 2025 and 2030 will reach 140 million VND, and over 200 million VND, respectively.

The local State budget revenue is set to increase by 7.25 percent per year in the 2020 - 2030 period, hitting nearly 22.8 trillion VND in 2030.

Can Tho also aims to maintain its provincial competitiveness index (PCI) in the top 10 nationwide, with the rate of innovative start-ups accounting for about 4 - 5 percent of the total number of newly registered enterprises.

♐ An expressway system connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho - Ca Mau and from Can Tho to other regional localities, and to border areas with Cambodia, and more domestic and international air routes from and to Can Tho, will be taken shape in the next ten years. The city’s technical and social infrastructure of Can Tho will meet standards of a modern and civilised river ecological city./.
