Ceremony marks 38th anniversary of victory over genocidal regime
A ceremony took place in Hanoi on January 6 to celebrate the 38th anniversary of the victory over the genocidal regime in Cambodia (January 7, 1979-2017).

Hanoi (VNA) – TheVietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) and the Liaison Committee of FormerVietnamese Experts in Cambodia hosted a ceremony in Hanoi on January 6celebrating the 38th anniversary of the victory over the genocidalregime in Cambodia (January 7, 1979-2017).
Speaking at the event, VCFAChairman Vu Mao said the victory over the genocidal regime in Cambodia is atriumph of a just cause and the fighting solidarity between the Vietnamese andCambodian nations, which share a time-honoured traditional friendship andmutual support particularly during hard times.
He stressed that the traditionalfriendship between Vietnam and Cambodia has become an invaluable and sacred commonasset of the two nations, helping cementing the bilateral ties in the new stage.
This year, the two countries willcelebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (June24) – a grand event in their ties, Mao said, adding that the two peoples,especially young generations, need to value and foster bilateral ties.
Cambodian Ambassador to VietnamPrak Nguon Hong, for his part, expressed his joy at the development of theCambodia-Vietnam relation.
He thanked the VCFA fororganising the ceremony to look back at the great sacrifice of Vietnamesevoluntary soldiers to liberate Cambodian people from the genocidal regime,rescue the Cambodian nation and revive Cambodia.
The Ambassador expressed gratitudeto heroic soldiers and patriots for sacrificing their lives in the cause of liberationof Cambodia and conveyed his profound thanks to voluntary Vietnamese soldiersfor their support during the cause.

Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap and Cambodia’s northwestern province of Banteay Meanchey have inked an agreement on bilateral cooperation for the 2016-2020 period.
The southern province of Tay Ninh and its Cambodian neighbouring province of Svay Rieng will host the first border friendship exchange between Vietnam and Cambodia on December 28-29.
