Chinese tourists to Cambodia continue to rise in Q1

Hanoi (VNA) – Up to 683,436 Chinese tourists visited Cambodia in the firstquarter of 2019, up 35.1 percent over the same period last year, according to areport of Cambodia's Tourism Ministry.

Xinhuanews agency reported that China remained the largest source of foreign touriststo the Southeast Asian country, accounting for 36.4 percent of the totalforeign arrivals during the January-March period this year.

Atotal of 1.87 million international tourists travelled to Cambodia during thefirst three months of this year, up 9.7 percent over the same period last year.

CambodianTourism Minister Thong Khon noted that the country is expected to attract threemillion Chinese tourists in 2020 and five million in 2025.

Tourismis one of the four sectors supporting Cambodia's economy as it contributed 12.7percent of the country's gross domestic product in 2018, said the minister.

Inthe year, the country received 6.2 million foreign tourists, including 2million Chinese, earning gross revenue of 4.35 billion USD.

Cambodiais famous for three world heritage sites, namely the Angkor archaeologicalpark, the Preah Vihear temple, and the Sambor Prei Kuk archaeological site.

Besides,it has a pristine coastline stretching 450 km in four southwestern provinces ofKoh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Kep.-VNA
