Consulate General in Guangzhou marks 68 years of Vietnam-China ties

The Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou city, China’s Guangdong province, recently hosted a banquet in celebration of the 68th founding anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties (January 18, 1950).
Guangzhou (VNA) – The Consulate General ofVietnam in Guangzhou city, China’s Guangdong province, recently hosted abanquet in celebration of the 68th founding anniversary of the two countries’diplomatic ties (January 18, 1950).

The event saw the presence of Guangdong andGuangzhou officials along with representatives of Vietnamese people andbusinesses in the Chinese province.

Addressing the banquet, Vietnamese ConsulGeneral in Guangzhou Dang The Hung said since the diplomatic ties were founded68 years ago, the Vietnam-China traditional friendship has been unceasinglyenhanced. 

The Vietnamese Party, State and people alwayskeep in mind the precious support that the Chinese Party, State and people gaveto the country’s struggle for national liberation. They always wish to worktogether with the Chinese side in developing the countries’ comprehensivestrategic cooperative partnership in a stable, healthy and sustainable manner.

Hung noted that 2017 was an important year forboth countries. While Vietnam successfully hosted the APEC Economic Leaders’Meeting, China also successfully organised the 19th National Party Congress.The top leaders of the two Parties and States also paid mutual visits in oneyear for the first time.

In 2017, bilateral trade was estimated at about100 billion USD, and Vietnam remained the biggest ASEAN trade partner of China.

The Consul General also highlighted that cooperationmechanisms between Vietnamese ministries and localities and Guangdong provincecontinued to be implemented effectively last year. Their economic, cultural,scientific-technological, and tourism cooperation maintained the growing trend.Vietnam’s trade with Guangdong reached 26.7 billion USD in the first 11 monthsof 2017.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam andthe Guangdong People’s Government held the 6th meeting to review cooperationbetween Vietnamese localities and the Chinese province. They also approved acooperation plan for 2017-2019, he added.

In his speech, Deputy Secretary-General of theGuangdong provincial People’s Government Gu Xingwei shared the view that overthe last 68 years, the China-Vietnam friendship has remained a valuable asset ofthe two peoples.

He stressed the successful visit to Vietnam byChinese President Xi Jinping last November shortly after China’s 19th NationalParty Congress demonstrated the close-knit relationship of the two countries asneighbours, fellow socialist countries and important partners. Cooperationbetween Guangdong and Vietnamese localities has also gained numerousachievements in various fields.

Gu affirmed that China wants to together withVietnam consolidate the stable growth of bilateral trade and promote win-wincooperation to a new height.-VNA
