Cuban NA Chairman wraps up Vietnam visit

Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez on June 18 concluded his eight-day official visit to Vietnam, which was made at the invitation of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Hanoi (VNA) -Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez on June 18 concludedhis eight-day official visit to Vietnam, which was made at the invitation ofNational Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

During the visit, theCuban top legislator held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Thi KimNgan; paid courtesy calls on Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and PresidentTran Dai Quang; and met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

He also delivered aspeech at a plenary session of the National Assembly and attended aquestion-and-answer session.

Chairman Esteban LazoHernandez and his entourage visited the Ho Chi Minh National Academy ofPolitics, and had a working session with officials of the State Bank ofVietnam. They also visited Ho Chi Minh City, Ben Tre and Son La provinces.

The Cuban officialsalso attended a Vietnam-Cuba friendship meeting held by the Vietnam Union ofFriendship Organisations (VUFO).

On the occasion, thedelegation also paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum inHanoi, visited and wrote on the memoir book at the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House inthe President Palace, and laid flowers at the statue of Cuban Hero Jose Marti inHanoi.

At these meetings, thetwo sides expressed belief that with the sound political relations and everlastingsolidarity, Vietnam and Cuba will continue to promoting their friendship andcooperation, contributing to national construction and defence in each countryas well as peace, stability and development in each region and the world.

The two sides stressedthe need to further bolster bilateral ties, especially between the twofriendship parliamentarian groups, while strengthening cooperation between thetwo legislatures in the coming time through the exchange of delegations at alllevels to deepen mutual understanding and share information as well asexperience in various fields.

At the same time, theywill also continue reviewing and updating or signing new agreements, thus completingthe legal framework for the development of bilateral ties in conformity with newsituations in each country.

The two sides also affirmedtheir determination to raise two-way trade to be on a par with good politicalrelations.

The two legislatures willcontinue backing and promoting the implementation of cooperation programmes andprojects between the two countries, especially in agriculture and consumerproduct production in Cuba, as well as medical researching and producing,health care, tourism infrastructure, and energy.

The two sides also consentedto continue coordinate closely with and support each other at bilateral organisationsand forums, especially the United Nations, serving the interest of each countryand peace, stability and development of the two regions as well as in theworld.

The two friendshipparliamentarian groups will seek ways to enhance mutual understanding andfoster the friendship and cooperation between the two legislative bodies in thefuture.-VNA
