Hanoi (VNA) – The death toll in Thailand due to the impact of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that recently shook Myanmar has increased to 19 after another body was found, the Thai rescue force reported on March 31.

The volunteer rescue group "Fire and Rescue Thailand" announced on social media that another body had been pulled from the site of a collapsed high-rise building in Bangkok.

The deadly earthquake in Myanmar caused strong tremors in Bangkok, about 1,000 km south of the epicentre. Several other Thai provinces were also affected.

Despite the powerful earthquake, Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports announced on March 31 that it still maintains its forecast for foreign tourist arrivals at 38 million this year.

The impact of the quake is to be limited and short-term, Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong said, adding more than 1,000 hotel room bookings had been cancelled since the quake centred in Myanmar hit Bangkok on March 28.

꧋ On March 30, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced that this country will proceed with the traditional Songkran festival as scheduled in April, as the powerful earthquake in Myanmar and its aftershocks did not cause significant damage to Thailand./.
