Hanoi (VNA) – Effective defence cooperation between Vietnam andJapan, including the ties between the two ground forces, has contributedimportantly to the bilateral friendship.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staffof the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), made the statement at a reception in Hanoion January 8 for Chief of Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force Gen.Koji Yamazaki.

Gen. Koji Yamazaki said that he is delighted at visiting andlearning about Vietnamese land and people and the VPA.

Earlier, he held talks with Deputy Chief of the GeneralStaff of the VPA Lieut. Gen. Pham Hong Huong, during which they discussedcooperation orientations between the two forces, especially in theparticipation in United Nations peacekeeping missions, humanitarian relief,disaster settlement and military medicine collaboration.

They informed each other of their respective country’sground force, and defence policies, while exchanging views on regional andinternational issues of mutual concern.-VNA
