Dien Bien (VNA) - Secretary of the Party Committee in the northern province of Dien Bien Tran Quoc Cuong on March 20 hosted a delegation from Russian universities to discuss educational collaboration and scholarship programmes offered by the governments of Vietnam and Russia.

Cuong briefed the guests on Dien Bien’s potential and advantages and provided an overview of the province’s education system, from vocational training to general education. He emphasised that human resources development, vocational training, and job creation are top priorities of the locality, serving as both a goal and a driving force for the province’s progress.

The official said that Dien Bien hopes that Russian universities will support its efforts in higher education and postgraduate training, offer short-term training courses for administrators and educators, and assist in teaching the Russian language in local schools and educational centres. The province also seeks scholarships for students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate education, as well as annual seminars to promote study opportunities in Russia and provide admission guidance, he said.

At the meeting, both sides discussed potential joint scientific and educational research projects, lecturer exchanges, and training programmes in medical sciences.

Representatives from top Russian universities, including Cherepovets State University, Kuban State University, St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Kazan Federal University, and Moscow State Law University, presented their institutions’ strengths and academic offerings.

They expressed a strong interest in welcoming Vietnamese students, including those from Dien Bien, and in tailoring training programmes to the province’s needs.

Earlier, on March 19, Dien Bien’s Department of Education and Training organised a programme to provide enrollment counseling and introduce scholarships from Russian universities at the Dien Bien Boarding High School for Ethnic Minority Students. The event attracted over 500 students from high schools across Dien Bien Phu city and Dien Bien district.

Attendees received comprehensive information on academic programmes, government scholarship policies from both Vietnam and Russia, and student life in Russia. Currently, around 5,000 Vietnamese students are studying at nearly 200 Russian universities, mostly under government-sponsored scholarships.

🌞 For the first time, Russian universities directly engaged with students in Dien Bien, offering insights into enrollment criteria, academic opportunities, and cultural experiences. The event marked a significant milestone in educational cooperation between the two countries, opening new avenues for collaboration in training and research while helping Russian universities better understand Dien Bien’s human resources potential./.
