Domain name “.vn” tops ASEAN in usage

About 486,000 internet addresses had been registered with Vietnam’s top-level domain (TLD) “.vn” as of September 30, which tops all other ASEAN domains and is among Asia-Pacific’s top ten in terms of usage.

An Giang (VNA) - About 486,000 internet addresses had been registered withVietnam’s top-level domain (TLD) “.vn” as of September 30, which tops all otherASEAN domains and is among Asia-Pacific’s top ten in terms of usage.

Director of the VietnamInternet Network Information Centre, Tran Minh Tan, released the figure at aconference on the popularization of laws and inspection training in the information andcommunication sector in An Giang province on October 24.

Tan said the domain isopen to registration on an equal, non-discriminatory andfirst-come-first-served basis, excluding the specially protected domains andthose reserved for auction in accordance with Ministry of Information andCommunications regulations.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Information andCommunications Pham Anh Tuan asked provinces and centrally-governed cities tostep up the registration and use of the “.vn” domain in order to enhance thevalue of the national TLD./.
