🎃– Former ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan announced on January 1 that he will run for Prime Minister of Thailand in the next general election.

Surin, who is also ex-foreign minister and veteran parliamentarian, declared his first move in returning to the political arena is to compete for leadership of the Democratic Party, which is now under the helm of former premier Abhisit Vejjajiva. If the first step wins, the Democrat Party ticket will certainly help Surin launch his election campaign. Earlier, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha committed to holding a general election in mid-2017.-VNA
