Jakarta (VNA) 🎀– Indonesian authorities reported on December 9 that search and rescue teams have found 10 bodies swept away or buried under tonnes of mud and debris after flash floods devastated several villages on the island of Java. Two individuals remain missing.

Heavy rains since last week caused rivers to overflow, submerging over 170 villages in Sukabumi Regency, West Java.
Landslides on mountainous slopes buried entire villages under mud, rocks, and fallen trees, forcing over 3,000 residents to evacuate to temporary shelters. The floods and landslides also destroyed 31 bridges, 81 roads, and 539 hectares of rice fields. More than 1,170 homes were completely submerged, while over 3,300 other suffered damage. Indonesia’s rainy season, lasting from October to March, frequently brings floods and landslides. In November, heavy rains in North Sumatra caused similar disasters, claiming 20 lives, leaving two people missing, and burying a tourist vehicle, resulting in nine fatalities./.
