Antananarivo (VNA) – The 16th Francophone Summit was closed in Antananarivo, Madagascar,on November 27 after two days of sitting.
President Tran Dai Quangand leaders of the Francophone countries attended the event.
During the two-day event,participants discussed measures to promote equal growth and responsibledevelopment, thus contributing to ensuring peace, stability among the membernations as well as in the world.
They talked the implementationof the Sustainable Development Goals and commitments in the Paris Agreement onClimate Change, suggested specific measures to accelerate implementation of theStrategic Framework of the Francophone for 2015–2022, theFrancophone's youth strategy, and the Francophonie Economic Strategy, withfocus on empowering women and youths.
They also ratified theAntananarivo Statement and 13 resolutions, talked theorientation of the community in the coming time, in the fields of peace,security, anti-terrorism, language diversity and culture, economic cooperation,sustainable development, among others.
Theleaders suggested the International Organisation of La Francophonie(OIF) strengthen its support to prevent and settle conflicts, reinforce peaceand promote compliance to international law, including the principles to solvedisputes with peaceful measures.
They also expressed their concernsover the situation in the East Sea and took into account the recent regionalprogress, and called concerned parties to restrain and settle disputes bypeaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UNConvention on the Law of the Sea. They also welcomed efforts to maintain peace,security, stability and freedom and safety of navigation and aviation in theregion.
The Summit admitted New Caledonia(France) as an associate member and Argentina, the Republic of Korea, andOntario (Canada) as observers, raising its total number of members andobservers from 80 to 84./.
