Hanoi gathering marks 45 years since victory of southwestern border defence
A gathering took place in Hanoi on January 6 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the victory of the war defending the southwestern border and, together with the Cambodian troops and people, defeating the genocidal regime (January 7, 1979 - 2024).

Hanoi (VNA) – A gathering took place in Hanoi on January 6 to celebrate the45th anniversary of the victory of the war defending thesouthwestern border and, together with the Cambodian troops and people, defeatingthe genocidal regime (January 7, 1979 - 2024).
The eventsaw the presence of Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chea Kimtha; Vietnamesegenerals and heroes of the people’s armed forces; foreign guests; 200 warveterans, former volunteer soldiers, and former experts of Vietnam who used tofight and work in the neighbouring country; and Cambodian students.
Le KimAnh, President of the Hanoi Women’s Union and Chairwoman of the city’s Vietnam -Cambodia Friendship Association, affirmed that the two countries boast friendlyneighbourliness, solidarity, and mutual support throughout history.
Shortly after winning theresistance war against the US in 1975, the Cambodian people suffered from a bigtragedy caused by the reactionary force of Pol Pot - Ieng Sary. This force alsodistorted history, provoked, and seriously violated the independence,sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Vietnam.
To safeguard theFatherland’s sacred sovereignty, protect people’s lives and property, andrespond to the urgent appeal from the Kampuchean United Front for NationalSalvation, with the noble international spirit of “helping the other meanshelping oneself”, volunteer soldiers of Vietnam and the revolutionary armedforce of Cambodia launched a strategic offensive along the entire borderline todrive off the Khmer Rouge and liberate the Cambodian people from the genocidalregime. On January 7, 1979, Phnom Penh capital was completely liberated, Anh noted.

At the gathering, former volunteersoldiers and former experts of Vietnam recounted their memories of the timethey spent with Cambodian comrades and people while fighting on the southwesternbattlefield to free Cambodia from the genocidal regime, and settling thisregime’s consequences and rebuilding Cambodia.
On this occasion, 50 gift packages were presentedto war veterans, former volunteer soldiers, former experts, and representativesof Cambodian students in Vietnam./.
The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang and the neighbouring Cambodian province of Kep on December 27 reviewed the one-year implementation of an emulation plan on building a Vietnam - Cambodia border of peace, friendship, and cooperation for common development in the 2023 - 2025 period.

The new headquarters of the Central Committee of the Cambodian Veterans’ Association (CVA), funded by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, was inaugurated and put into use in Kien Svay district, the Cambodian province of Kandal on January 4.

At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach. He noted that the early completion reflects the strong commitment of local authorities, the business community, philanthropists, and residents in improving housing conditions for disadvantaged groups.
