Harvard, HCM City national university boost cooperation

HCM City(VNA) – President of Harvard University Professor Drew Gilpin Faust visited theHo Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) under themunicipal National University on March 23, working with the executive board andtalking to students.
At a press conferenceafter the visit, Faust said the meeting with the local university’s executiveboard focused on bilateral cooperation, which would cover more fields otherthan the study of Vietnam’s history.

She said as an American historian, she was delighted to share her thoughts withstudents of a top university in Vietnam, adding that her visit aims tounderstand more about the country’s history and today dynamic growth.

Sixteen Vietnamese students are studying at Harvard, she added, expecting thatmore Vietnamese students will consider her university among their options foroverseas education.

There is no differencebetween US and foreign candidates registering for Harvard scholarships, Faustsaid.

USSH PresidentAssociate Professor Vo Van Sen took noted of two cooperation topics proposed byhis university, which are the Mekong Delta’s sustainable growth from theperspective of social sciences and humanities, and Vietnam’s economic reformamid global integration.

Sen said these topicsare not new to Harvard researchers and scholars, but his university is lookingfor fresh approaches.-VNA
