HCM City (VNA) – Permanent Vice Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s PartyCommittee Tran Luu Quang held a meeting on April 10 with Lao and Cambodianstudents on the occasion of their New Year festival.
The New Year festival, called Chol Chnam Thmay inCambodia and Bunpimay in Laos, takes place in April every year, attractingtourists with traditional culture, a festive atmosphere and water splashingtraditions to wash away bad luck and pray for a good new year.
Chol Chnam Thmay is one of the most importantfestivals for Khmer people in Cambodia. It usually lasts three days and iscelebrated mostly in pagodas.
Quangextended his wishes for a warm and happy New Year to them.
Hevoiced his belief that they will work for stronger friendship and solidarityamong Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian peoples, thus helping build an ASEANcommunity of peace, cooperation and development.
Atthe meeting, Lao and Cambodian students presented traditional art performancesof their nations.
Earlieron April 6-7, the municipal Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union organised anexchange programme for the three countries’ students in the southern coastalprovince of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
Theevent aimed at helping participants understand more about each country’sculture as well as the friendship and solidarity between the three nations.
At present, there are 805 Lao and Cambodianstudents learning at 25 universities and academies in Ho Chi Minh City.-VNA
