HCM City (VNA)– The 39th anniversaryof Cambodia’s victory over the Pol Pot genocidal regime was marked in Ho ChiMinh City on January 5.
Cambodian Consul General in HCM City Im Henexpressed his deep gratitude to the Party, Government, ex-volunteer soldiersand experts of Vietnam for their valuable support for Cambodian people toescape from the Pol Pot genocidal regime (January 7, 1979).
He said the progressive development thatCambodia gained in all aspects over the past 39 years was attributed to theclose collaboration between the two countries’ Parties, Governments and people,particularly the assistance of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, in the difficultperiods in the 1980s and 1990s.
The two sides have been actively nurturing andreinforcing their sound neighbourliness, traditional friendship andcomprehensive cooperation to bring practical benefits for people in therespective nations.
Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia FriendshipAssociation’s chapter in HCM City Truong Minh Nhut highlighted January 7 as ahistorical milestone of the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnamand Cambodia, saying the day marked Cambodia escaping from the genocidal regimeto enter in an era of independence, freedom and revival, and it also opened anew chapter in the bilateral neighbourliness.
