Soc Trang (VNA)ไ – A ceremony to hand over the token of 402 newly-built homes to underprivileged families was held in Vinh Chau township in the Mekong Delta of Soc Trang on January 24 as part of its programme on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses ahead of Tet.

The programme targets social policy beneficiaries, poor and near-poor families, and ethnic minority households in need of housing assistance. According to local statistics, 2,262 households in Vinh Chau township neede new or renovated homes, with an estimated budget of nearly 113 billion VND (4.6 million USD).
To deliver 402 homes to the targeted families in time for the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, Vinh Chau has mobilised support from the entire political system, the community, organisations, and residents. Contributions in materials and labour helped ensure the homes met quality standards and were completed as planned. During the first phase, priority was given to 600 households with the most urgent housing needs, of which 402 homes have been completed. The remaining 198 are expected to be finalised by March 30, 2025.
Officials emphasised that providing homes for disadvantaged groups, particularly during the festive season, reflects the spirit of solidarity and ensures no one is left behind. The township aims to complete all 2,262 homes under the programme by September 2025. Earlier, My Xuyen district's authorities handed over 328 newly constructed homes to local residents on January 22. The district plans to complete 983 homes for underprivileged families by the end of September 2025.

Director of the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs reported that Soc Trang has over 8,400 homes requiring reconstruction or renovation under the programme, with a estimated cost of 445 billion VND.

🐽 Since the programme was launched over a month ago, more than 1,400 homes have been completed, offering improved living conditions for poor and near-poor families and ethnic minorities just in time for the Tet festival./.
