Jakarta (VNA) – With the target of manufacturing2.5 million units of automobile by 2020, Indonesia has become an attractive investment destination for the automotive industry.

Indonesian Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia manufactures around1.1 million units of vehicles a year, with 200,000 of them being exported.

The industry has also employed a workforce of around three million, he added.

According to the minister, the autoindustry has become one of the main sectors in Indonesia’s national industrypolicy, and it contributes significantly to the country’s GDP.

He pointed out that an economic growth rate of above five percent could benefitthe industry amid the sluggish global economy.

Mitsubishi Motor Krama Yudha (MMKI) has inaugurated a new auto factory inCikarang, West Java.

MMKI said with an investment of 7.5 billion rupee (116.4 million USD), the firmwill have a production capacity of 160 thousand units per year and use aworkforce of 3,000 people.

At present, there are three big auto manufacturersoperating in West Java, including MMKI, Suzuki and Shanghai Wuling.-VNA
