The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has unveiled a plan to build 188 ships to enhance the country’s marine transport and ensure maritime security.
The plan is to support the “sea toll road” as part of the government’s maritime-axis programme, the ministry’s sea transportation director general Bobby Mamahit said.  The ship development requires an investment of 11.8 trillion Rupiah, or 822 million USD, and is expected to finish in 2017, Mamahit noted, adding that it includes the construction of 73 patrol vessels to strengthen Indonesia ’s marine defence.  The plan will be implemented via bidding and contract and procedures are scheduled to be completed by mid-October, he said.-VNA
