Indonesia: Search for Lion Air plane set to last seven days
The search for the Lion Air plane that crashed into sea on October 29 is scheduled to last for seven days, and if there remain unfound victims after this, the search will be extended for another three days, Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said on October 30.

Jakarta (VNA) – The search for the Lion Air planethat crashed into sea on October 29 is scheduled to last for seven days, and ifthere remain unfound victims after this, the search will be extended foranother three days, Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas)said on October 30.
As of October 30 noon, 26 bags containingvictims’ bodies had been retrieved. These bags were sent to the National PoliceHospital in east Jakarta for identification.
A total of 35 ships, 50 divers, and hundreds ofothers have joined in the search for the plane and victims.
Basarnas said the search and rescue operationhas seen the participation of many forces, including the Indonesian navy andthe National Transportation Safety Committee.
Earlier, head of the National TransportationSafety Committee Soerjanto Tjahjono said a team of Singaporean experts would alsovisit the crash site to assist searching efforts.
The passenger jet, a Boeing 737 Max 8 codedJT610, was en route from Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang on Bangka Island, carrying189 people onboard. It lost contact with air traffic control just 13 minutesafter takeoff. Basarnas said on October 29 that it was unlikely there were any survivorsfrom the crash. –VNA
