Jakarta (VNA) – The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) ofIndonesia said that terrorism cases financed by sources related to theself-claimed Islamic States (IS) have been on the rise since 2014.
The agency said that terrorist cells need money to purchase weapons andexplosive, induce new members, pay travelling costs for militants and developterrorism network.
The BNPT and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) haveworked to prevent the raising and transfer of money for terrorism activities,especially those with close links to the IS.
BNPT Chief Suhardi Alius said that the IS remains a major threat in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Head of the PPATK Kiagus Ahmad Badaruddin said that his centre haskept a close watch on the capital flow from funds involved in terroristnetworks with close connection to the IS, which may include terrorist groupsthat operate under the cover of Muslim missionaries.
