Indonesian online consumers increase by 88 percent in 2021

Jakarta (VNA) - A report by market researchfirm NielsenIQ showed that the number of consumers shopping online in Indonesiareached 32 million people in 2021, an increase of up to 88 percent from the previous year.

Director of Nielsen Indonesia Rusdy Sumantri said that the figure rose sharply in the context that the number of Internet users in thenation increased by 32 percent from 34 million in 2020 to 45 million this year.

In addition, the Indonesian Government's promulgation ofpolicies to limit people's movement serving COVID-19 prevention and control hasalso led to a rise in the number of online shoppers.

According to Rusdy, during the National Online Shopping Day(Harbolnas) this year, the volume of transactions increased 7.4 times, with theirtotal value also soaring by 56 percent to 18.1 trillion rupiah from 11.6 trillion rupiah recorded last year./.
